Augustina Esiovwa is a medical doctor and Program Officer for CSI’s Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative in Nigeria. Her goal is to bring quality health care to poor communities in Africa. In addition to working as a volunteer with Pro-Health International in the Niger Delta region, she had a year-long internship at Sacred Heart Hospital, Abeokuta, Nigeria, the first in Nigeria where she was actively involved in the management of patients with tropical diseases and HIV/AIDS. She did her surgical training at University of Ghana Teaching Hospital, Korle – Bu, Ghana. She also worked as the only medical officer at a mission hospital in a little village in Imo State, Nigeria where she focused on health education as a means of reducing morbidity and mortality.
